After a disappointing end to David Ortiz’s fair-well season, the Red Sox begin the season as the favorites to win the AL East. By adding ace Chris Sale with a blockbuster trade, and DH Mitch Moreland, along with Tyler Thornburg, and Rookie of the year favorite Andrew Benintendi, the Red Sox added solid players to their already stacked roster. A roster which includes Cy Young winner Rick Porcello and MVP runner-up Mookie Betts Also, long time Sox player of Dustin Pedroia, and young studs in Jackie Bradley jr. and Xander Bogaerts. But is this enough to break the streak? Since the epic collapse of 2011, the Red Sox have always finished in last place after a first place season. With multiple injuries, including ace David Price and a now defeated bullpen, can they still accomplish their goal in a stacked AL East.
