For a non-native of beautiful Rhode Island it is easy to assume to best areas of Rhode Island are Providence and Newport. For the locals, we know there’s so much more to Rhode Island that meets the eye. Personally, I live in Jamestown. Most people probably have never heard of it–so let me enlighten you. Jamestown RI, it’s located on Narragansett Bay and it’s the second largest island on the bay. Situated within Jamestown is FORT WETHERILL. Why did I choose to capitalize Fort Wetherill? I’d like to emphasize how absolutely cool this place is. It’s a former coast artillery fort and it occupies the southern portion of the eastern tip of Conanicut Island. There’s graffiti covering the entirety of the fort and it overlooks the entrance to Narragansett Bay. If you enjoy being artsy, (which we all do) then Fort Wetherill is the place for you. Situated in Jamestown is also Rhode Island’s premier lighthouse: Beavertail. It’s a 45-foot historic lighthouse with little exhibits all over. If you’re looking for cliff-diving, great views, hands on aquariums and more–GO VISIT JAMESTOWN. This little island has huge things to offer.
